The goal of project AutoLife is the exploration of Artificial Life aspects with autonomous mobile robots. We are investigating the group behavior and the emergent intelligence of groups of robots ("robot swarms"). Programming techniques traditional parallel processing techniques, learning, and genetic algorithms. This project is directed by Thomas Bräunl and sponsored by SunTREC of Sun Microsystems. Lab Colours
Starting in spring 1995, a graduate level lab course has been conducted by Thomas Bräunl at the Computer Science Department of the Univ. Stuttgart. The mobile robots had been assembled previously by the lab assistants, so the students' assignments consisted in programming the robots to perform various tasks.Please note, that several sample programs listed below need further library files. In order to run this software, copy the whole course software from our lab ftp directory.

ITL Computer Scientists Receive Federal 100 Awards
Douglas Montgomery, Advanced Network Technologies Division, and Stephen Quinn, Computer Security Division, received 2008 Federal 100 Awards from Federal Computer Week. The award recognizes 100 people who have made major contributions to the federal IT community in the past year. Montgomery was recognized for his leadership in developing a standard profile to support the federal government’s implementation of Internet Protocol Version 6. Quinn was honored for his work in developing the Security Content Automation Protocol, a technical framework that supports the automation of security operations in information systems. Montgomery and Quinn will receive the awards at a gala on March 24, 2008, in McLean, Virginia.
